The way cyberspace has developed in the last half decade, it has made it compulsory for all web-based business enterprises to make readjustments and reinvent themselves again in order to carry on offering value to their customers and earn profits on web. This reminds us of the term web 2.0. You got to be living in pre-historic time if the buzz surrounding web 2.0 has not touched you yet! I get confused hugely when I run into people who have their businesses on the internet and are yet to harness the potential of web 2.0.
To put points in perspective, let's throw some light on the term web 2.0. Few years ago Tim OReilly (a popular person on world wide web) happened to be talking of the way cyberspace has grown in the recent times. He coined the term web 2.0 to relate to the rapidly changing cyberworld, assuming the old ways of managing tasks on the web to be web 1.0. From the internet business' aspect, web 2.0 users are far more drawn in to web-based products and services if compared to the old ways of selling on the net. Web 2.0 basically incorporates a set of utilities that allow people to share data, establish business/social connections and carry out project collaborations on internet. Nice examples of web 2.0 websites are the contemporary social-networking websites, wikis, virtual worlds, blogs and present-day cyberspace communities/forums such as second life, facebook, myspace, orkut, linkedin, wikipedia etc. The basic differences between the conventional and novel ways of doing things on the internet lie in the following points:
Internet browsers are now able to interact in a more personalized way and freely on websites if compared to old times. Web 2.0 websites have the peculiar ability to acquire user feedbacks at once, thereby making it an effective utility for business enterprises to take preventive and critical measures to enhance the conversion rate.
The feeling of being a part of the community is much more unique and worthful of the time in a web 2.0 set-up.
Internet based businesses no more have to be worried about getting respectworthy rankings with search engines as they are able to show their sites to the visitors in a much more effective manner.
In conclusion, web 2.0 is the new age internet. Not adjusting to it and not tapping into its potential can be termed as a self-destructive step for any web-based business organization serious about its future.
